Genre Research
In my genre research I chose the following 3 genres to potentially write a script about.
This research includes the conventions of the genre, 2 directors per genre, 2 actors per genre, and 2 example films each.
1. The Thriller/Mystery genre usually includes a hidden identity that is slowly uncovered, high levels of suspense, a villain driven plot, and mostly goes into the categories of supernatural, political conspiracy, or psychological mind games.
Two directors that have made works in this genre are James McTeigue, who's known for his work 'V for Vendetta', as well as Sam Mendes, who is known for his work on multiple 'James Bond' movies.
Two actors in this genre include Daniel Craig (James Bond), as well as Hugo Weaving (V and Agent Smith).
Lastly, two movies in this genre are Fractured and Platform.
2. The Sci-Fi genre usually includes futuristic technologies, or a setting in the future (e.g. time travel), the use of SFX (special effects), can be set in outer space, other worlds, or an alternative earth, and include things that may not exist like aliens and monsters.
Two directors that have made a work in this genre are Lana Wachowski, who worked on the first 3 Matrix movies, and Denis Villeneuve, who worked on Blade Runner, Dune, and Arrival.
Two actors in this genre include Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) and Natalie Portman (V for Vendetta).
Lastly, two movies in this genre are Interstellar and The Matrix.
3. The Horror genre usually includes the use of suspense and fear, the large use of non-diegetic sound, a villain (evil person/monster/etc.) and a victim, as well as is usually set in the woods, abandoned places, and are most likely dark.
Two directors that have made movies in this genre are Michael Spierig, who worked on Jigsaw, and John Krasinski, who worked on A Quiet Place.
Two actors in this genre include Patricia Velasquez (Us and Malignant), as well as Bill Skarsgard (It).
Finally, two movies in this genre are A Quiet Place and Jigsaw.
I personally will choose Sci-Fi for my film as it is one of my favourite genres and I have always enjoyed it. Furthermore, since it is near fantasy, it would easy to make an idea for the film and then subsequently make a script.
